A walk in the countryside around Swainswick, finding a new camp. Scroll down for photos.
Soon we were in a field, sun shining and we dipped into a sweet woodland, very steep, We had a fruit snack and threw sticks for Rosie. The air is still. We made our way down the steep slope. Ted, Jasper and Jacob are first and run up and down a grassy bank while they wait. A light rain falls for a few minutes and then stops. Sun again. We clamber up the side of the valley into a line of hazel trees. We cut some for walking sticks. We talks about adders and wasps. As I cut some children climb up further and sit in the sun. Oscar thinks he's found a shed snake skin. We have custard creams. "On the move again!" (Will). Jacob commented as we all sped up the steepest back, Sue came in 11th and proud! Rosie has 'green ninja acorns; stuck in her fur. We decided to sit in the sun and peel the bark off our freshly cut sticks. We had a competition to create the longest strip of bark in one piece. William was in the lead, then Elsie took over fro a while and \noah was then in the lead. The world record went to Elsie. On we went along deer paths in the wood. We found a new place to camp. It has good trees for rope swings. Sue, Takato and Noah made a nice little fire. Children swung on the swings and had a good play - lots of laughing and screaming. A fresh breeze blew on us. Peeling continued. Sun shines dappling the ground. There is lots of laughter, especially round the fire and swings. Noah likes to lounge by the fire. We warm baked beans and eat them on bread. We had a woodland feast of sausages, bread, cheese and of course toasted marshmallows. All too soon the day got cooler, we looked at our watched and, oh, it was time to walk back.
Best bits:- Rosie - getting the bark off the stick; William - my best bit was going to the forests; Ted - umm... when we made our sticks; Jasper - marshmallows!; Oscar - arriving at camp; Alexander - rope swing; Noah - eating marshmallows; Elsie - peeling the stick; Takato - playing with fire; Jacob - having the marshmallows and having a fun time on the swings
Leaders:- Rachel, Sue and Rosie
