explorer day, ages 7 - 10, Fri 28th Oct 2011

A walk through the countryside and up to 'half way' camp.  Scroll down for photos.

As we prepared to set off the mist sat in the valley like creamy soup in a bowl.  The sun lit up the falling fog around us.
After crossing two roads we walked up a lane.  By the gate into the "field of freedom".  A farmer was getting six young cows into the back of the lorry using strong words and a stick.  We had a snack in a field before going through a steep wood.  We gathered hazel to help our journey another stop at an oak tree looking at acorns, and sprouting hazel nuts.
Up the 'thousand steps' to half way camp.  Rope swings, two fires, whittling, threads, hammock.  Beautiful weather.  Peace time quickly passed and we packed up put out the fires and headed back.

Best bits:- Barney - seeing the female buzzard; Lucy - making my perfect marshmallow sticks; Eden - decorating the stick; Max - making and throwing my spear; Antonia - on the hammock; Maddie - making my sticks; Sophie - making our own fire; Ruby - probably making my head-dress

Camp:- 'half way' camp
Leaders:- Barney and Lucy
