explorer day, ages 7 - 14, Wed 26th Oct 2011

A long walk in the countryside near to Swainswick and stopping to set up camp.

A big walk up to Solsbury Hill through a derelict wood then through a hedge into an open field: amazing views with everyone chatting and having fun.  We could see Isobel and Harry's roof from where we were.  Down to the story tree then trough a really difficult bit of land.  Full of tall grasses, hammocks of ants and brambles.  We then disappeared off the face of the earth.  Through another hedge soon to find camp - near some big pigs.  Totally exhausted for a moment we ate ate lunch, having made a fire.  Sausages cooked,  flat breads made on a hot stone, the rope swing in full action.  Everyone busy; Kori and Matt set their own fire and whittled sticks; Abbey - cooking flat breads playing with Isobel; Isobel and Jay swinging; Max and Sebastian swinging; Ellie enjoyed whittling and the hammock;  Ollie whittled; Alex and Harry busy whittling; Joe played with Sebastian on the swing.  There was a good atmosphere, playful, industrious, inquisitive and kind.  The sun shone, blue sky wind in the trees.  Marshmallows and home time.

Best bits:- Jay - the walk / everything; Alex - staying at den, walking and having food; Sebastian - everything; Max - everything;  Joe - all of it, cutting wood; Harry - spear making; Isobel - playing on swing;  Abbey - the camp;  Ellie - hammock and whittling; Ollie - making it to camp and carving; Kori - fire; Matthew - fire making

Leaders:- Edward, Barney and Rebecca
