after school, Tuesdays in November 2011

An after school club with lots of different activities including cooking and non-motor vehicle usage.  Written by Rachel and Rebecca

22nd Nov:-
Sue helped us today as Edward is on jury duty.  She says, "Ben showed me his skills on the trolley - very fast but very in control of his cart, including going down backwards!!  I timed him doing the middle path.  Arthur and I had a little game of football - passing the ball to each other.  Then there was some apple throwing between the club children and some children over the wall!  Things got out of hand and it had to be stopped.  The boys were very caring when Arthur got hit by and apple.  Then when the football boys arrived they decided to play hide and seek tag.  7 boys all played together.  Isaac's torch was very helpful.  Scooting on the patio to finish".  Inside Amy and Alex had a hilarious game with marbles and imaginary aliens.  Isobel, Tobias and Rebecca made biscuits and decorated them with icing.  Alexander and Amy joined in at the end.  Lovely club.

15th Nov:-
Not very many children today, even less for the first hour as four had football club.  Everyone went inside for some tea and then some went back outside.  The regular baker Isobel has made lots of brownies and lots of cakes so we decided it was time for a change.  We found a biscuit recipe so that they could cut them out into shapes.  Amy, Alexander and Isobel took it in turns weighing out ingredients.  Unfortunately this had to go in the freezer for 40 minutes so the children didn't get time to cut them out and cook them.  Meanwhile outside Arthur, Ned, James and Ben played on the trolley, racing down the slope on it.  When Charlie, Isaac, Ollie and Jack arrived they played on the race track. Now it is dark they are wearing or carrying torches.  A game of chase developed round the garden in the dark.  Lastly they came up and scooted on the patio.

8th Nov:-
I spent the majority of the club with Amy and Ned making a bonfire.  They played all sorts of games around the fire - the last being protecting the chickens from the smoke by waving apple tree prunings into the smoke to 'cut' it.  I could hear some older boys enjoying the race track - going down it as fast as they could on various vehicules.  Inside Rebecca was cooking choc brownies with Isobel and others.  Alexander has become an avid reader and sat reading in the sitting room, even forsaking his tea!
