Oliver's explorer party, boys turning 7, Sat 10th Dec 2011

A group of 6 boys make their way through the countryside to dead-wood camp.  Scroll down for photos.

We were looking for evidence of metal and ancient dinosaurs, evidence found - metal poos, inner ears, metal jointed leg, skin and a tooth.  We walked through a wood past a 'junk yard' and onto a steep slope with views of the valley.  A metal dinosaur flew overhead.  We froze, hoping it wouldn't spot us.  Down the hill we went.  The boys discovered a steep earth slide and loved screaming, slipping and sliding.  Toby had a rope around his waist, "hold on", "don't let go!", "argh!"  On we went overturning stones, looking for fossils, "it's a perfect shape for a dinosaur's head," Will.  At last we arrived at 'dead-wood' camp.  Toby set up a campfire with Henry and Gabriel.  Everybody collected wood.  Rachel put up 2 rope swings.  Deadwood camp is very steep.  We had a feast of sausages, bread, ketchup and cheese.  We popped corn.  Oliver wanted a spear made to make a stake for a den.  We went off for a little explore and cut some ash for carving.  Becca takes photographs.  We finish off with marshmallows.  Sun is shining through the leaves.  With faces painted for war, we walked through fields.  The boys have gone tribal, making warrior moises.  Treacherous mud!  Harry's stuck!  Hip hip hooray!  The boys stalked a 'star-wars walker'.  Attack!  Get under cover!

Bets bits:- Gabriel - the campfire; Toby - the weather, the campfire, I've always liked campfires and the look on their faces!; William - making warrior faces and getting these carved; Oliver - everything, everything I enjoyed; Sam - the marshmallows, the climbing and the sliding; Rosie -running around with the stick; Will - when we were climbing up the rope, that was really fun;  Becca - the bit I really enjoyed watching was when they were going up and down the slope; Harry - camping, having the marshmallows and putting sticks in the fire.
