A 3 hour party for a boy turningn 5 and 5 other friends and their parents.
Alexander shared with me what he was looking forward to doing on his party. We headed up and down lanes and had to crouch down really low at times to get under. Through an old gate into a small wooded area at the back of the church yard. We had great fun making a fire and enjoying special food while sat round it. We made a rope swing in the cypress tree. Most of the boys made spears from freshly coppiced hazel, then decorated them with coloured threads. Alexander helped me put the fire out and we used some of the charcoal to make signs on an ash tree.

ReplyDeleteThe party was brilliant – everyone really enjoyed it. I asked Alexander for his feedback and he said "Perfecto. That means perfect. The best birthday party ever. Can I do it again next year?".
Barney was a huge hit – really good with a group of energetic little boys taking time to answer questions and have fun with them but equally good with the adults (slightly outnumbered by the kids, which is no bad thing), really informative and entertaining. Due to a couple of cancellations, it was quite a small group with essentially three families of two siblings each but it worked really well. Highlights included making the fire, climbing trees, planting an oak-tree, and for Alexander using tools, whittling bark and tying knots. One of his friends felt so relaxed after the picnic that he had a short lie-down wrapped in the groundsheet. It was lovely eating birthday cake under the trees looking out over Woolley Valley.
Will definitely be coming back for his sixth birthday.
Thanks a for lovely time,
Cheers
