A big group of children go down into the valley and back up to deadwood camp on an explorer party. Scroll down for diary.
Soon we were running down a frosty valley. The children climbed a willow tree, Cecilia went the highest. "I'm relaxing" she said perched up high. Some shuffled into the hollow ancient oak that we then came across. We explored a gurgling brook. Rachel cut hazel sticks for everyone. We crossed a dangerous boggy bit and climbed a steep slope and sat down for a biscuit snack. We rested. Lovely view "Nice cool air up here," Oggy. We had a javelin throwing competition. Round 1: Natalie, round 2: Alby, the referee was Toby. Some of us took the hard way up to camp - steep and tangled with brambles. We arrived at dead-wood camp! "It's a great place to have a battle," Josh and Jason persevered and got a campfire going. We had sausages, cheese and ketchup sandwiches. A group were making a den. "There are two teams. Jake and Will are the enemy and are attacked!" Lily. Edward facilitates making mallets. The mid-day sun filters through the bare trees and our camp is sunny. Jason helps saw the wood in the production line of mallet making. Lily passed round woodland flavoured popcorn. Abby likes to have pretend injuries Cecilia is an old scottish granny. I visit the top base. Alby is lying, a patient with a thread for a tube to his heart and leg bandaged with a scarf. Josh is the Captain, he shows me the escape hatch. Will swings on he rope swing. Child-initiated play continued. The group at the base were under a 'gas attack!' Jason is now an expert at making mallets. Slowly we pack up. One team is called 'Venom' "everybody else shall fear us with our spears."
